The Village contracts with Waste Management to collect residential trash. This service is provided at no charge to the residents. You are allowed two (2), 30-gallon containers per week. Your trash should be curb side by 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday mornings. Please do not place anything close to your trash that you do not want thrown away. You may leave extra trash out and be charged $1.10 per bag. This additional charge will be placed on your quarterly water bill.

The Village’s recycling pick-up is on Thursday mornings. Your recycling must be at curbside by 8:00 a.m.

All recycled material must be cleaned and/or rinsed. Please keep your recycling dry. Recommended recycling containers include plastic milk crates (these are ideal as they are light and allow water to drain ), small plastic trash cans or laundry baskets (with holes in the bottom), other small plastic containers, again with holes in the bottom, cardboard boxes (please replace when they get old, soft and/or wet), and brown paper bags.

If you miss the 8:00 a.m. placement, you may take your recycling to the recycling bins at the Gambier Maintenance Barn. The Village and Knox County have placed three bins at the back of the loop driveway for all of Knox County residents to use. Please do not place recycling in the recycling trailer to the right of the driveway as it is not in use at this time. There are notices on the bins as to what can be recycled.

The maintenance department staff starts picking up leaf towards late October. Weather permitting, we try to make three pick-ups per season. Leafs are picked up as residents rake them up. A final pick-up schedule will be posted at the Post Office. Things to remember are:
Rake leaves to front of the property within a few feet of the street.
Do not rake leaves into the street.
Do not block culverts or storm sewers.
Do not bag leaves.
Remove any sticks or limbs from leaves.
Leaves not raked to curb by final pass will be the responsibility of the property owner or resident.

The Village has a bulletin board in the lobby of the Gambier Post Office. All meetings, situation notices, etc. are posted there. They are also posted at the Community Center and in the events & notices section of our Web site. Please check out the board any time you are in the Post Office.

For more important issues, the Village of Gambier uses Blackboard Connect, a city-to-resident notification system, to notify residents of an urgent message. The Village is able to send out phone messages and e-mails per the information supplied by the residents. The notification system link is located on the home page of this website. Residents are responsible for filling out the information needed at the link if they wish to be on the list.

The Village of Gambier has an imposed income tax of 1.5%. Tax returns are due April 15th. You will need to fill out a questionnaire when you fill out your water request card. We do not have mandatory filing requirements and the questionnaire allows us not to send tax forms to individuals who do not need to file with us.

Building hours at the Community Center are Monday, Thursday and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m..
